Down the lake

Situated, lakeside, in the private Welbeck Estate, we welcome both beginners and accomplished helms.

We sail a menagerie dinghy fleet :- Lasers, Enterprises, Toppers, Wayfarers, Xenons, Supernovas, Laser 2s etc. the emphasis being on family sailing and enjoyment rather than cut-throat competition.

Whilst we race on Sundays, during the summer we are also open on Saturday afternoons and Wednesday evenings for practice and training. We are a registered RYA approved training centre.

Of course, not everyone spends all their time on the water. We have a small cohort of regular non-sailing spouses, partners and family who come simply to enjoy spending time together in such a beautiful setting. Even hardened sailors will want to sit out the occasional race and maybe help the Officer of the Day or work on their boat.

Children are always welcome and we encourage members to organise interesting things for them to do, on site and in the Clubhouse. Please note that as a club we are not able to take on the responsibility for children in the absence of their parents.

Whilst it may be possible to crew or borrow a boat we also have a small number of club boats that are made available to visitors for a nominal charge. For those looking to purchase their first dinghy there is no shortage of experience and advice freely available at the club. Indeed, we often know of a boat or two suitable for sale to club members.

Social functions are organised from time to time. These are usually fairly informal occasions such as BBQ's or bonfires.

During the winter months members keep in touch by monthly get-togethers in a chosen pub,and at the annual prizegiving which is the major social function of the year.
